The Blues wore Barclay Plager´s number 8 to honour their former player and coach who died on February 6th, 1988. Plager was one of three brothers who played for the Blues and make them the "Plager´s team" for a few years. Barkley played 10 NHL seasons (1967-1977), all for the St. Louis Blues and was their coach/assistant coach from 1978 until his death in 1988.
